Our Community Impact
The non-profit structure allows the Panhandle Bike Ranch to focus on community benefit and impact. Our mission includes:
Group rides, social events, and competitions that bring riders together, plus volunteer opportunities that let community members help shape the park's future.
Access opportunities for economically disadvantaged youth and families, because financial barriers shouldn't keep anyone off the trails.
Workshops on riding skills, bike maintenance, and trail etiquette for all ages and abilities, plus partnerships with local schools and organizations to advance cycling education.
Creating pathways for youth and adult employment in outdoor recreation, giving community members career opportunities right here at home.
Implementing conservation and sustainability practices in trail construction and maintenance, protecting North Idaho's natural beauty for future generations.
Our Programs
More kids on bikes — that's the whole idea behind Saddle Up and Send It, PBR's scholarship program for riders ages 12–18 who face financial barriers to mountain biking. Each scholarship covers shuttle access, bike fleet use, and a helmet, so cost is never the reason a kid misses out on the mountain. For a lot of these kids, it's more than a hobby — it builds confidence, gets them outside, and gives them a community of other riders in their corner. The goal for year one is five scholarships, with lessons planned as a future expansion so kids aren't just riding, but growing as riders. It's funded through community donations and four local business sponsor tiers (Trail Supporter $60, Ride Sponsor $120, Full Send Sponsor $180, Season Sponsor $500+), coordinated by Misty Rains.
PBR's community-driven women's programming, anchored by the Grit & Grace Grind — a free monthly evening ride held throughout the summer. Ladies pedal up and ride down together, built around the idea that mountain biking takes both grit (pushing yourself, trying something new, getting back up when you fall) and grace (being patient with yourself, supporting other riders, finding flow on the trail). It grew out of a casual women's ride Jen ran the summer before and has become one of PBR's most beloved community touchpoints — a low-pressure, no-cost space for women to ride together and build confidence as a group.
Honor & Ride is PBR's ongoing series of days dedicated to veterans, active military, and Gold Star families — full days of riding, coaching, and community, completely free to those who take part. Participants get the full PBR experience: bikes, gear, shuttle access, skills coaching, and a hot lunch, all at no cost to them. PBR partners with North Idaho Veterans, 03's n 11B's (a mountain biking club helping combat veterans recover and thrive through outdoor recreation), and Thin Line Community Support (which sustains free wellness programs for veterans, law enforcement, and first responders) — and has seen firsthand what time on the trail can do for someone managing PTSD: connection, healing, and a reason to get outside. It's funded by an opening weekend fundraiser held Memorial Day weekend, where PBR fires up the grill and hosts riders all four days to raise money for these Community Days throughout the season.
